So Italy won the World Cup.
Who really had money on them to win and I'm not talking office sweepstakes here.
But the real story of the Word Cup final was not the result....What a sorry sight to see the captain of a World Cup finalists team being sent off, a man with so much to lose. As it turns out it did cost France the game. What possesses a man to ram the opposition in an attack similar to that of an angry bull? Now Materazzi is not known for his angelic reputation, he was holding Zidane back by his t-shirt and possibly his nipple, during the throw in which sparked off the headbutting incident. He then looked to pass some snide remarks to Zidane which must have been scraped from the bottom of the barrel judging by the reaction he got. It was a half a minute or a minute before this offence was flagged. The ref certainly didn’t see it, and it seems very unlikely that the linesmen, those that were awake, saw it. I do agree it is a red card offence but this was practically a retrospective red card.
In an alternative universe France won the World Cup on peno’s, Zidane ended his career on a high and had the respect of his teammates and soccer fans worldwide.

I think its ashame .Even tho. I wanted the Italians to win from the outset they did not deserve it on the basis of this one game. The french tried to win and were fitter. With Zidane still on it may still have gone to peno's but the mind set wud have been different..although with wee Bartez in goal the Guidos were always strong contenders for the Shootout.
