Where is the love?

Blogs are very odd things, you feel like you have nothing to say then somebody sparks off a thought which needs a good rant about.

I was mailing my freind Nilo, Bresser's post wedding nick name, and we were exchanging thoughts of the day, hers were stronger then mine, I am merely focussed on a staff night out later.

She was saying that the amount of apartments with planning permission in The Coole, birthplace of us both, is astounding and ridiculous. Now I know nobody likes change and I dont mind to a certain extent but Irish property developers have a lot to be accountable for. Not only for selling out in their own villages but by designing what can only be described as shoeboxes. Why not put a bit of imagination and build nice apartments like in Kilgobbin Wood in Sandyford or like the nice low rise spacious Loreto Abbey development. Does it really cost that much extra to design a rectangle?

Because in the coole, there are so many apartments, a few developments was fine but they are completely moving away from the nature of the village. If there is a town planner out there with a brain I woul like to see one, even better a town planner with a brain without a brown paper envelope in their back pocket. I'd have more of a chance of seeing a Leprechaun.

Anyone know how to make a quick buck?

It's a tough enough month what with the withdrawal symptoms and the lack of atmos about the place, one must fight the good fight to keep sane over the dry month that is January. I have come up with a few free past times that I possibly overlooked in December.

Watching telly old skool; not your Christmas run of the mill stuff, the good stuff...This Morning when you get up carries you through to 12.30, a half an hour to do your "days" chores which consists of making tea mostly, then you have your unpredictable half hour, channel four should stick with one series and go with it, but more often then not its a half hour of Buffy on Sky, Home and Away followed by either ten minutes of neighbours or Oprah. I tend to recommend the Neighbours unless its a celebrity special on Oprah. Then you naturally snooze until The Afternoon Show, then you can nap or watch one of the quiz shows between four and five, bringing you nicely to the surrogate parents of us all Rich and Judy. Now through the years, and there have been alot, involving Richard and Judy I always thought what is he doing with her, as nice as she is she is a tad unstable, the longer I watch it the more I see how patronising he is and in fact, she has the upperhand in the relationship. Then these days its bblb then Hollyoaks and so on and on.

Tea: Hours and hours of catch up with your mates, so much tae if that were we in California you could cause a drought, a good cup o'tae well and truly rocks.

Plan your holidays; so far its Scotland in April, Prague in July and a boat trip up the Shannon with Bresser et al for Paddys day and a big road trip in August/September, destination unconfirmed. Plan plan plan, even if its just a walk up the hills, it brightens up January.

Cooking: now this maybe a regular pastime to ye but it aint in my everyday schedule. The lack of penneys in the piggy bank causes you to eat at home, necessity is the mother of all invention. This week I have been mostly eating steak and chicken black bean stir fry.

Excercise: tis is my schedule but you tend to go that little extra harder at it in January.

Sorting Xmas presents: you know the ones that you don't really need or don't have space for/use , go find them a space, use up those toiletries from last year to make room for these ones.

Organise a sesh for payday: By the time the 25th comes I will not have known a thirst like it. It has been planned since the first day we came back, it will consist of a heavy lunch followed by, after work, darts in the office, possibly another bout of darts in the Palace, frequent a few places on Camden and Wexford street and hope that a bunch of other people are on the same vibe, can't be having empty pubs now. Then a sneaky few the next night.

Work a little: Your attention span in December towards work may have to be made up for somewhere along the line.

Consider your bills; just consider, nothing else.

Couch Potato, moi?

TV I have been watching over the weekend,

Soapstar Superstar – ITV, Craig from Corrie should win hands down and quit acting. Michael Greco, here’s a suggestion, why don’t you present reality TV shows instead of appearing on them all the time.

Celebrity Big Brother 2006 – Ch4, Jodie Marsh, will you ever stop throwing your toys out of your pram when the conversation is not about you, Barrymore, hang in there and don’t breakdown- you’re the bomb. Chantelle keep it up, you may beat all of these punters. Faria Alam?! I'm annoyed that she even questioned Chantelle and even more annoyed I waste braincells remembering her name.

Nip/Tuck – My oh My, I didn’t see it last night but received a full synopsis of Sean and I think I am in love with the scriptwriters although I find Julias character flawed, I don’t believe “Doctors” have it in them to kill someone and continue working. Its very tempting to find out off US sites who is the carver, I hope Kimber is OK, she’s a good egg.
Tough Guys- RTE 2, the film was made in 1986 and Kirk Douglas looked 149 in it, what must he look like now.

It's not a bad Monday

Was on the tiles last night, haven’t done that on a Sunday for years, it’s a good night to go out I highly recommend it. Its for the people who are serious about having a good time and more often then not punters who have no work the next day, unfortunately I am not one of them. It was a quality night, I had been out in Samsara who were hosting a really good salsa night (which led me to believe with all the Brazillian punters who showed up that there’s a mafia right here in Dublin, but that’s another blog) and got a text from Jules and Tones to say they were Flannery’s bound, so I dropped all tools and legged it up there.

Now I had a bit of beef with the place last week as they played fierce poor music last Wednesday, not an inkling of Queen, Bryan Adams nor Footloose, so my faith in Flannery’s was blowing in the wind, but most definitely God was a DJ and life was a dancefloor lastnight. Two of Jules mates were out, Dave and Mark who were not afraid to throw a few shapes and were open to dance offs. “Don’t stop me now” came on and I knew we were in for a good night, then “Footloose”, “Cmon Eileen” etc, its was a magical, they ended with U2 but it wasn’t Sunday Bloody Sunday, but that’s OK. Funnily enough they don’t play the national anthem for a bit of drunken and patriotic shenanigans, but that’s OK too cos Flannery’s can do no wrong by me.

Definitely one of my top two nights in there for musak and bopping.

Darina Allen I ain't

I must admit its not been the Black Tuesday I have building it up to be, first day back in work was actually OK.
It was Juliannes birthday in work, she's hit 25- now I have someone to share the crisis that occurs when one hits the quarter life. I shudda been getting psyched up to go out with the work crew but something about Desparate Housewives is postponing the post work drinks event until tomorrow when we bail around to mine and drink what free drink we all received through work. Happy Days, Cheap Days.

Christmas and New Year have come and gone so fast, I feel rested though I feel my holidays were weeks ago. This Christmas was a good catch up with the home crew, even a reuniting of some old school chums and bonding over really bad karaoke occurred.

But the highlight was to be and was that of Bresser and Phils wedding. Twas a great day, snow was forecast but it seemed Mr Frost was too busy elsewhere in the world, the sun shone, the bride looked beautiful and the groom was calm and everyone had a great day and even more importantly everybody got equally as wasted as the next person. When everyone was finely fed and overly watered the DJ climaxed the night by playing the Saw Doctors, most of us made it off the dancefloor with our toenails entact, Darby! The drink flowed until a respectable half five and then it was up the next morning to start all over again for New Years Eve in the hotel, can't say I was as destroyed but enjoyed myself none the less.

From that to Funderland, pikey central. Managed to stomach three rides, which was quite a naive achievement considering the three course meal had in the previous hour, we than sojourned to Debs apartment for another lovely dinner which was to be followed by a chocolate mousse I then made, which turned out to be solid, weighing a ton and tasting of egg. Then we had a helping of Team America, "Matt Damon"and Bad Santa, ahh those sandwiches....

I have a feeling it will be a good year.

Saying that, the pressure is on, to buy a house or meet a man or get a car with power steering, God imagine I had to do one at the least? Chances. Towards the end of the year I realised how many people from my year in school are either married or engaged,it's looking like roughly 50% and to top that my first proper boyfriend got engaged. In the words of Kim John Il....Herrroh!!One of these days I will get my act sorted, but until then I shall spend my nights on Camden Street with my only responsibility in life is remembering to close my front door which might actually be my New Years resolution to learn how to do after a night out.
